Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then, she became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms as well as arms control. She traveled along with President Ronald Reagan many times to attend summits and discuss matters like the Iran Contra controversy.
