She was a musician, creator, and performer who set new boundaries in the music world. She was an Mexican American performer who was both traditional and modern. She brought together both worlds and helped bring Tejano music to the forefront. She was a rising star but her sudden death broke it. And as is common with a talented, charismatic young performer is lost too quickly, many mourned the potential that she could not yet reach. The result is that fans have been inspired over through the years to dig to work even more to ensure her successes won't be lost in the dust. Her tragic death in a shooting caused a reaction in the Latino Community, similar as the reaction to deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. The music of Selena, an artist who was hugely successful in Latino communities throughout North America touched people young as well as old. Selena is a flamboyant and sexy performer. She's often referred to as Latina Madonna. But, she's also an admired role model since on stage, Selena exhibits a family-oriented attitude and actively participates in anti-drug programs.
